The morning has flown by, as it usually does when the Muse is being kind and the words seem to write themselves. I’m over 65,ooo words into Erebus and still only at the beginning. It’s going to be a very large volume and as you can see from the title of this page, its about a haunted house over three eras. It’s another dull and wet day here, but that makes it perfect for writing horror. It’s hard to think of dark things when the sun is shining. I can’t believe I’m finished writing so early in the day, though I’d still be at it, but someone phoned and the sound jolted me back to the present. That sometimes happens when I’m in the middle of writing some scary piece and the noise coupled with the scene I’m in, frightens the life out of me.
No matter how many times I tell people not to phone while I’m working, except in case of emergencies, they still do it. I find a lot of peoples attitude is strange when it comes to writing. If I’m asked out to lunch and I say I can’t go because I’m working the usual answer is, “but you’re only writing, you can get back to it later.” They have no idea that once your in the zone, so to speak, it very hard to get back there. Hope your day is going well.
